Analysis of vertical agreements in the automotive industry and economic effects of possible legislation change

Vertical agreements in the automotive industry (MVBR). In this project, we assessed the competitive effects of a change in the block exemption regulation rules imposed on the passenger cars industry in Europe. The study focusses on issues in relation to the distribution of new cars and, more specifically, on the restrictions on multi-branding that the car manufacturers could impose on their dealers. In this context we analysed the incentives of dealers and manufacturers to engage in multi-branding. The results were published as an ESMT CA white paper and presented in June 2009 at a symposium in Brussels.
