CMS EU Competition Conference 2017

Dr. Theon van Dijk will be speaking at the CMS EU Competition Conference 2017 on 19 October 2017. The conference will bring together leading competition law practitioners, economists, in-house counsels, government officials, judges and academics. Johannes Laitenberger, Director General DG Competition, EU Commission, will be the special guest speaker.

Charity Run Berlin

E.CA Economics participated in the Berliner 5 x 5 km team relay. Four teams with five runners - both from the Berlin and Brussels office – took part. Based on a E.CA’s donation formula a total amount of 2.200€ were collected.

The amount was donated to the inclusive soccer tournament organized by Lebenshilfe e.V. and a children project in Ecuador. Thanks to all participants!

Expert Forum 2017

E.CA Competition Law & Economics Expert Forum

“1997–2017, the 20th Anniversary of the EU Notice on Market Definition”

This year’s Expert Forum reviews some of the core principles related to market definition and look ahead at new questions arising in the era of fast-moving digital markets and two-sided platforms.

The forum includes a keynote speech by Tommaso Valletti, Chief Economist of DG Competition.

Book Launch - EU State Aid Control - Law and Economics

Following the publication of their book “EU State Aid Control – Law and Economics”, Vincent Verouden (E.CA Economics) and Philipp Werner (Jones Day) hosted a book launch event in Brussels on 8th  February 2017. Welcoming remarks were made by Gert-Jan Koopman, Deputy Director-General for State Aid, European Commission.

The book, published by Wolters Kluwer, provides a critical assessment by leading State aid lawyers and economists of the current status of EU State aid control.

Hans W. Friederiszick presented at the BMWi-Workshop on 22nd November 2016 in Berlin.
His presentation was titled “How to define the relevant market? Open issues for market definition in digital markets – a practitioner’s view.“ (in German).

M&A Seminar at ESMT Schloß Gracht

Hans W. Friederiszick contributed to the M&A Seminar organized by ESMT on 17TH November 2016. In his session he gave an introduction to economic analysis in competition law proceedings and its interaction with the commercial  M&A process.

Hans W. Friederiszick was panelist at the GCR Live 8th Competition Litigation in Düsseldorf on 3rd November 2016.

His presentation focused on the German approach of antitrust in e-commerce.
